ABOUT ARETHA Aretha Brown is an Gumbaynggirr Artist, Activist and YouTuber who made headlines following her speeches at both the 2017 and 2018 Invasion Day Protests in Melbourne. In 2017 Aretha was elected the first female Prime Minister of the National Indigenous Youth Parliament. Browns first painting ”Time is on our Side, You Mob", was also in the 2019 Top Arts exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Her artwork and activism centres around her political status as a young Indigenous Australian, and her push for the teaching of black history to be mandatory within state schools. Aretha has since appeared in the new ABC TV documentary "Will Australia ever have a black Prime Minister?". She now operates her own independent Youtube channel - speaking about politics, culture and art in her own Australian context. This channel acknowledges and honours all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders whose land we are on. We recognise that this video is made on stolen land and that sovereignty has never been ceded. I also pay respect to my elders, past, present and future.
